Kindred spirits in Barbastro, Spain.

This is Lidia. I met her in Barbastro recently while visiting the home of Saint Josemaria Escriva. She owns a shop that sells fabric and sewing and needlework materials. With my broken Spanish, and her broken English, and with the help of hand gestures, we were able to talk briefly about what we do, and made our seemingly broken conversation meaningful! She is into quilting and patchwork. She says she does not sew dresses because she's quite big. hihi. I love that while we do not speak the same language, we speak the same passion. I love that I am able to take home beautiful fabric from her shop. It was such a delight to meet her!

Bought a yard of fabric (pink), and three quarter-sized fabric. Planning to use the three to make pouches, and the 1 yard for a beautiful skirt! It has to be a very pretty and special skirt for a 15-euro fabric! hehe

Lidia's message (botton text is the translation). :)

Lidia's store is called Alfiletero de Yaya, which, in English, I believe is "Yaya's Pin Cushion." She has a Facebook page. :)

I hope to cross paths with her again someday. :)

Always thankful to meet kindred souls,

These are custom-made pillows I was asked to design and make recently. They take longer to make as the text is written by hand (Thank you to calligraphy artist, and also my friend, Ms. Louie Anne Garcia, for sharing your time and talent). The border and stars are hand-stitched; fabric options for applique were personally handpicked, and they were finished with much attention to detail and design.

The text is a message dear to a group of friends, and these words truly speak of the beauty of their friendship. :)

Proposed two designs for this project..and this design made the cut! :)

Laying out the fabric appliques before sewing. Calligraphy done by Ms. Louie Anne Garcia.

The makings of a star. :)

Finished hand-stitched star to decorate the border.

Grateful. Always. :)

I'm thankful to have been part of their story. Have you gotten in touch with your 'starry' friends of late?

I could not get this song out of my head, so I decided to use my hands to 'draw' it and share it with you. It is worth sharing after all.

The song is called 'When It Was Over' by Sara Groves, and I used to listen to it over and over during college. It goes, "There is a love that never fails...There is a healing that always prevails..."

Truly, love washes over a multitide of things, and makes us whole.

Some things are beautiful the way they are, it scares us to even turn them into something more beautiful that we think they could be. We ask, "What if they become less beautiful because of me?"

They certainly would not shine if that's how you think. Have faith. You are capable of making beautiful things happen in your life. So much more beautiful things.

Happy, positive weekend, everyone!
